Information for participants

Every weekday, Ethos brings hot nutritious meals to thousands of homebound elderly residents in Boston

Along with a well-balanced meal, our Meals on Wheels drivers serve up a cheerful, consistent presence while also keeping a watchful eye over each recipient’s health and safety.

The Ethos Meals on Wheels Program caters to many tastes, with menus that feature, Kosher, Caribbean, Asian, Vietnamese, Italian, African American, vegetarian, and therapeutic dishes as well as traditional American fare.

Based on their individual needs, elders may also receive frozen weekend meals, cold meals, and nutritional supplements.

If you or someone you know is unable to shop for and prepare food that meets the requirements of good daily nutrition, Ethos will deliver tasty, nourishing meals right to the door.

Meal Delivery & Cancellation

  • Meals are usually delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Please call us if you have not received a delivery by 2 p.m.

  • Each client will receive a monthly menu outlining the various meals and listing any holidays when meals are not delivered.

  • Please call us at least one (1) day in advance if you are not going to be home to receive your midday meal. Same day cancellations should be called in prior to 9:00 a.m.

  • If you do not answer your door when we try to deliver the food, the driver will leave a card noting the attempt to deliver the meal. If you receive this card, please call us to tell us that you are all right. The office staff will call you or your emergency contact to make sure that you are all right. So it is very important that you let us know when you are not going to be at home.

  • By order of the City of Boston’s Inspectional Services Department, Meals on Wheels drivers are not permitted to leave meals at the door if the client is not home or does not answer the door. If you need time to get to the door, please call out that you are coming. The driver will wait a reasonable amount of time for you to answer.

  • Meal delivery may be canceled due to inclement weather or conditions when it may not be safe to be on the roads. Local television and radio stations will announce delivery cancellations with school and church closures. Cancellations will also be available at (617) 5477-6606.
